Project Summary

The Mississippi Coliseum, located on the grounds of the Mississippi State
Fairgrounds complex in Jackson, was designed by Jones & Hass Architects of
Jackson, and completed in 1962. The steel-framed, 25,000-square-foot arena
provides for 6,500 permanent seating, and with an interior arena height of 70
feet, the coliseum has been used for numerous types of indoor events including
conventions, stock shows, circuses, athletic contests, and ice skating. Due to
the effects of time and our ambient environment, the concrete columns needed
repair and restoration. Steel corrosion, concrete carbonization, and existing
coating deterioration were widespread, leading to a full inspection, survey, and
restoration of the exterior concrete structure. United removed 100% of the
existing coating, inspected the concrete structure, completed concrete spall
repairs, and recoat the concrete with an anti-carbonation coating.
