Project Summary

Less than two years after it opened to residents, White Hall on the University
of Tennessee campus was closed unexpectedly to allow for repairs. United
Restoration was retained by the University to remove the existing masonry
façade of the Residential Building. Once the building’s exterior was safely
removed and the Engineer of Record evaluated the causation of the problem,
and a new façade support structure system was developed. The recladding
included the removal of all existing shelf angles, wall ties, and associated
flashings. Considering the shelf angle was to anchored to a wood lumber
structure, the new shelf angle system included the engineering and testing of
the new system on site during construction. The façade received a full
installation of Tyvek building wrap prior to final brick cladding and fiber cement board panels. Final touches also included all new sealants, gutters, and
downspouts.
