During construction of the new parking garage for the Bank of America
Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, it was determined that the upper level
structural beams were in need of additional strength due to future planned
usage. The response was to encase the existing post tension beams with a
larger beam, including an engineered rebar layout and additional post tension
cables. Up against a hard deadline, this all needed to be completed in the next
60 days. The project required significant shoring, shop drawings, form work,
subcontractor coordination, inspections and testing, while maintaining the
tight deadline. The final challenge came when the custom mix selfconsolidating concrete was to be prepared at the ready mix plant and then
pumped from the ground to allow placement through the top slab into the
large formed beams. United was able to complete the work with several days
to spare.
