project summary

Constructed in 1920, The Brown Hotel has been a Louisville landmark that has hosted prominent visitors from around the world. Composed of brick, Indiana limestone, and ornamental terra cotta, the building has maintained its original façade elements and historical appearance. But the general toll of time and seasonal weather cycles had begun to deteriorate the façade elements.

At the direct request of the owner, United Restoration developed and implemented an exterior envelope restoration plan that included; window caulking, wood window restoration, limestone repair and replacement, shelf angle replacement, masonry anchoring, tuckpointing, terra cotta cleaning and joint repair, façade cleaning and sealing. United worked in tandem with an architectural firm to professionally document the repairs, verify means and methods, and provide a construction document after the project.
