Constructed in 1931 the Daniel Guggenheim Building house the School of
Aeronautical Engineering at Georgia Tech in Atlanta Georgia. The exterior walls
are constructed of brick with decorative terra cotta and stone features. The
roofing includes slate at sloped roofs and membrane roofing at low slope areas
and low/feature roofs along the exterior walls. The University had experienced
an ongoing leak at the low-sloped roof and one specific slate roof valley for
many years.
United was contracted to remove the existing roofing assemblies to structure
and reinstall a new reinforced fluid system that would provide a monolithic
system that was seamless from detail to detail. Miscellaneous masonry repairs
were also necessary to ensure a watertight envelope at the decorative parapet
walls. These repair items included, terra cotta patching and crack injections,
tuckpointing, sealant replacement, stainless steel flashing, and window
perimeter sealant repairs.
