PROJECT SUMMARY

United Restoration teamed with George T. Fore, Architectural Conservator and Albert & Associates to assist in the identification of the necessary restoration of the Lucas Administration Building. Having previously worked with the Department of Archives and His-tory for the state of Mississippi, United was highly recommended to be a part of the design—build team. The project consisted of on site inspection, structural analysis, repair recommendations and collaboration on final documents to be reviewed and approved by the State Historical Board.

The restoration scope of work consisted of completing a primary exterior cleaning and a comprehensive building survey to identify scope of repair and replacement of the Terra Cotta Units. Once the survey was completed and the replacement terra cotta pieces were identified, United Restoration removed and replaced over 400 pieces, as well as repaired in place over 600 pieces. The repair of terra cotta includes a custom repair compound and custom glazing materials and techniques in order to match existing terra cotta profile and glazing appearance. United also completed 100% tuckpointing of the mortar joints within the terra cotta field as well as 100% of the brick masonry parapet wall. All mortars and repairs were historically appropriate.
